Western Dressage News from New Mexico

Well, no surprise to you the Ellie Stine-Masek clinic was great! There were traditional dressage riders (up to Prix St. George) as well as several western dressage levels being ridden. Folks came down from Colorado and then continued on to the New Mexico Quarter Horse circuit. It was great fun to visit with folks and get some great instruction. Many thanks go out to the team at Dressage Club of New Mexico and The Dressage Foundation with Lynn Palm’s grant. Super thanks to Vert for sponsoring the rider’s dinner that included a most wonderful evening with clinician Ellie Stine-Masek.

The next thing that is on our calendar is a fundraising trail clinic at the Stanley arena on July 9th. Brigette Honea will be the clinician. Brigette has taken a lot of horses to the AQHA World Show and done very well. For more information, here is the New Mexico Quarter Horse website.

For those of you looking for a great place to show and ride with really nice folks this summer, Colorado has 3 recognized shows in August. The Summer Sizzler, with the Western Dressage Association of Colorado, runs two shows back to back on the 12th and 13th of August. Then, the following Friday, there is the Classical Horse Club’s schooling show which is also recognized. All three shows will be in Castlerock. For more information, here is the link to the WDAA live recognized show page.

Just a reminder you do not need to be a member of the WDAA to show at recognized shows. Some clubs will charge a non-member fee.

Be sure to put the Arabian Horse Association of New Mexico’s Chile Roast show on the 8th (for the western dressage part) of September at Hipico in Santa Fe on your calendar. They are working really hard for this show and it’s going to be tons of fun. Until they get it up on their website here, again, is the WDAA webpage to link you with the general information.

Ongoing this year are the most wonderful Jeremy Steinberg clinics thanks to Hell Canyon Farm in Santa Fe. Here is a link to the PDF for riders and auditors. Jeremy's 2023 Santa Fe NM Clinic Schedule: 28-30 July; 8-10 September; and 27-28 October.
